|
DMV mails a renewal reminder to the vehicle owner 45 to 60 days before the registration expires. This reminder is also your renewal application.
If you lost or did not receive a reminder, refer to the Lost/Never Received Your Renewal Reminder section below.

Renew Online
Most Oregonians can renew their vehicle registrations online.
Check your eligibility to see if you can renew online.
When renewing online, you must use a credit or debit card and it must be part of the Visa® or MasterCard® network, i.e., it must have the  or  logo on it.
Restrictions:
- If you need your stickers mailed to a one-time special mailing address, you cannot renew online but you may renew by mail.
- You cannot renew online if you need to make changes to your registration, other than a simple address change.
- When renewing online, you can change to a different plate type only if it is listed as an option on your renewal reminder. If you want to apply for other types of plates not listed on your renewal reminder, see our Changing to a Different License Plate page.
Renew By Mail
Most Oregonians can mail their renewal applications (renewal reminders) to DMV using the envelope included with their renewal reminder.
Restrictions:
- You cannot renew by mail if you need to make changes to your registration, other than a simple address change or to route your stickers to a one time mailing address.
- When renewing by mail, you can change to a different plate type only if it is listed as an option on your renewal reminder. If you want to apply for other types of plates not listed on your renewal reminder, see our Changing to a Different License Plate page.
- The renewal application must be signed by one of the vehicle’s registered owners.
When renewing by mail, send your completed application (renewal reminder) and a check or money order for the applicable fees (listed on the renewal reminder) to:

Renew At DEQ
Many Oregonians can renew their vehicle registrations at a Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) emissions testing facility.
Note: This option is only available for vehicles registered in a metropolitan area that requires DEQ testing.
Use the links below to determine if your vehicle must be tested:
Restrictions:
- You can receive new stickers at DEQ if:
- Your vehicle is required to be tested (only tested vehicles will be renewed); and
- Your vehicle passes the emissions test; and
- You have your renewal reminder or a certified vehicle print and Form 268 provided by DMV personnel (refer to the Lost/Never Received Your Renewal Reminder section below); and
- You pay the registration fee and the inspection fee in addition to the testing fee (DEQ accepts cash and VISA® or MasterCard® debit/credit cards).
- You cannot receive new stickers at DEQ if:
- You do not meet all the requirements in the above list; or
- You wish to change to a different license plate and/or need to make other changes to the vehicle's registration (other than an address change); or
- The car is new to Oregon and/or is not registered yet in Oregon.
- The renewal application must be signed by one of the vehicle’s registered owners.
When renewing at a DEQ emissions testing facility, bring your completed renewal application (renewal reminder) with you (take the whole renewal reminder with you, do not separate the pieces) and present it to the testing technician.
Renew At DMV
Oregonians may also renew their vehicle registrations at a DMV office. If possible, bring your completed renewal application (renewal reminder) with you (take the whole renewal reminder with you, do not separate the pieces).
Note: You must visit a DMV office if you are making changes to your vehicles registration, other than a simple address change or one time routing of stickers.

| Lost/Never Received Your Renewal Reminder |

If you lost or did not receive a renewal reminder:
- Call DMV at (503) 945-5400, or email DMV via the Vehicle-related DMV Inquiry/Comment Form to have another one mailed to you; or
- Renew by mail or at a DMV office using an Application for Registration, Form 268; or
- If your vehicle requires DEQ emissions testing, you may visit one of the designated DMV offices listed below and request a certified vehicle screen print and Form 268, with the fees and expiration date filled in and highlighted by DMV. You may then take this with you to a DEQ emissions testing facility and get new stickers if your vehicle passes the test and you pay the applicable fees.

Put new registration stickers (tags) on your license plates as soon as you receive them (see our Sticker Placement page for instructions) and keep your registration card in your vehicle.

| Stored & Inoperable Vehicles |
|
You do not need to notify DMV if you choose not to renew a registration because a vehicle is not being driven or is inoperable. When you wish to operate your vehicle again, contact DMV to renew your registration. You must notify DMV if your vehicle has been totaled or otherwise damaged. Note: If the vehicle needs to be retitled as a damaged vehicle, a new title must be obtained before renewing registration.
