| General Information |
|
A Commercial Driver Training School License authorizes a school to provide classroom and/or behind-the-wheel instruction to students learning to safely drive a motor vehicle. Vehicles include, but are not limited to cars, trucks, motorhomes and motorcycles.

| Qualify/Apply |
|
In order to qualify and apply, you must:
- Complete a Commercial Driver Training School Application (Form 6050);
- Provide proof of:
- $2,500 bond
- Insurance in the amount of $50,000/$100,000/$25,000; and
- Schedule of maximum fees for instruction;
- Register your school name with the Secretary of State Corporation Division and provide a registry number;
- Provide a list of all instructors and training vehicles used by your school:
- Instructors must be qualified; and
- Training vehicles must be equipped with dual controls of a type approved by DMV; and
- Pay a $200 application fee.

Note: Due to the added costs of merchant fees, DMV offices only accept cash or checks and do not accept credit or debit cards.

Commercial Driver Training School Licenses are issued annually and they expire on the last day of the calendar year (i.e., December 31), regardless of the date they were issued. Licenses are issued for a given calendar year, not for a set 12 month period from the date of issuance.
To renew your license you must:
- Submit a properly completed application form;
- Provide proof of insurance in the amount of $50,000/$100,000/$25,000; and
- Pay the $200 application fee.
The new license will be mailed to your school/facility upon successful processing of your renewal materials.
